Journey

A complete score and sound rework for the iconic Indi title ‘Journey’, with the aim of conveying an insignificant character in an unknown world:

Lush musical elements where incorporated into interactive functions to heighted the games focus of experiencing an evolving virtual environment. In deliberate contrast, thin sonics were chosen for player movements, including the use of chopstick samples to represent footsteps.

Ultimately, the world should feel more in control of the narrative than the player, promoting the sense of an uncertain adventure.

Akira

A sound design project conveying a bustling, dystopian, hyper capitalist urban landscape.

A stylised sonic pallet was chosen inspired by retro arcade sound design which influenced the use of bit crushers, synths, and bright equalisation.

Princess Mononoke

An ethereal re-scoring of the Studio Ghibli film ‘Princess Mononoke’.

Warm and organic instrumentation was used to compliment the soft aesthetic and melancholic tone of the scene. This was achieved with recordings of a Fender Rhodes, virtual synths, and significant effects processing.

A re-scoring of this tense scene with my custom 'self-resonating talking drum'.

I'm Jacob, a recent Music Technology graduate with a passion for audiovisual media.

I believe sound has a unique power of sound to elevate digital media to its full potential, immersing the consumer within the virtual work and truly bringing narratives alive.

Within my work, I love to explore the blurred boundaries between score and sound. I am fascinated by how a sonic palette can seamlessly complement an art direction and manipulate emotive response unlike anything else.
